Our Mission

Our mission is to share our passion for design by bringing British tailoring to the world. We aim to create timeless tailoring with modern styling whilst delivering innovative, quality pieces at outstanding value.

Hawes & Curtis is a quintessentially British brand and shirt connoisseur specialising in fine tailoring and accessories for men and women. Founded in 1913 by Ralph Hawes and George Frederick Curtis, the brand continues to deliver the promise of exceptional quality, innovation and outstanding value. Hawes & Curtis opened its first store in the Piccadilly Arcade and has had many distinguished clients through its doors, including the Duke of Windsor, Lord Mountbatten and Fred Astaire. As a result of Hawes & Curtis’ commitment to impeccable service and product excellence, the brand has been awarded four Royal Warrants. Hawes & Curtis operates more than 20 stores in the UK and a store in Germany. The flagship store remains on London’s Jermyn Street, famous for its resident shirtmakers.

Cotton & Silk Face Masks

Protect yourself and others in style with this year’s essential accessory: a smart face mask crafted from our world-renowned shirting fabric. Choose from cotton or silk face masks which are lightweight, breathable and comfortable.

Hawes & Curtis was founded by two accomplished outfitters, Ralph Hawes and George Frederick Curtis, who opened the first store at 24 Piccadilly Arcade in February 1913. From the beginning the heritage brand has been acclaimed by aristocracy and Hollywood's elite. Notable customers have included the Duke of Windsor, Cary Grant, Clark Gable, Bing Crosby, Lord Mountbatten, Frank Sinatra and Fred Astaire.

Hawes & Curtis dressed Lord Mountbatten for most of his life and he went to endless trouble to make sure they obeyed his demands to perfection. On the 20th of December 1920 he wrote a thank you letter to Mr. Curtis:

“I want to thank both you and Mr. Hawes for all the trouble you have taken over fitting me out. I am delighted with the results and enclose a cheque to the value of £113.18.6d for the amount I owe you.”

2021 is set to be much brighter, but times are still tough for British retail. For more than 100 years, Hawes & Curtis has been at the forefront of British fashion, having been a favourite among royalty and Hollywood luminaries. Hawes & Curtis continues to represent the best of British to this day, and is proud to be the official tailor to Northampton Saints Rugby Club, one of the world’s best-known and best-loved rugby clubs.

We want to thank you for your loyal support and ask that you continue to buy British so we can serve discerning customers for the next 100 years! Here, we’re celebrating our design heritage and the clothes that will stay at the forefront now and for years to come.
